This is the genealogy of John Caho. These Caho's are from Central Illinois and most were born in Peoria, Illinois. Records have been compiled by Charles A. Caho. The site is looking for additional relatives to be able to link the other Caho clans within the United States. The ultimate goal is to trace the roots out of this country. The origin of the name CAHO is unknown by any branch of the CAHO's. Many think that it may be Irish, derived from the name Keough, or McKeough. The only CAHO name that I have found out of this country is in France, Wales, England, Mexico and Italy. It remains yet to be seen what our roots may find us to be. Meanwhile we will continue the search for our heritage.
It is also important to note that the name has been misspelled in records as CAHOE, KAHOE, KAHO and KAYO. We welcome the genealogy of the other CAHO's CAHOE's KAHO's etc. that may be able to tie us all together I try and maintain the genealogies of all CAHO's that I can find anywhere and welcome any further updating. John Fitchett recently found this letter dated in July 13, 1898 that may very well change the course of our genealogy and eventually unite the Central Illinois CAHO clan with the Washington, DC CAHO's. Here it is for your enjoyment and study:
July 13, 1898
William Weymouth Thomas Caho, son of Joseph Marion Caho to Martha Virginia Thomas Caho was born at Weymouth Mills, Prince Georges County, Maryland, July
13, 1847 and is now enjoying his 51st birthday. Suffering with rheumatism and health generally bad, though not confined to the bed or room and am thankful it is no worse. My father, Joseph Marion Caho was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, on the 18th day of April 1816 and was the youngest son of John Caho and Lydia Bryson, his wife and of Scotch Irish descent. John being the youngest of four brothers that migrated to America either from Ireland or Scotland, which of those I am not certain. They first located in Virginia. One of the brothers went to New York and then went South or West. The other two remained in Virginia, When my grandfather, John Caho, married and he died about the age of 50 at or near Brentsville, Fairfax County, Virginia.
My grandmother, Lydia Bryson, lived and died at the same place or near there at the age of about 70. My father, Joseph Marion, had four brothers and one sister. My father's brothers were named: John Thomas, Charles Henry, James, Edward, William Alexander, Joseph Marion, and sister Mary Elizabeth.
J.T. was born in 1801 and went to Washington, D.C. where he married Emily Baumclue and raised a family of two girls and three boys; named as follows: Susan Ann, Elizabeth, William A., John T., and Charles A. Elizabeth married John Dick and resides in Washington, D.C., 730 13 Street, between G & H Northwest. Charles A. resides in Washington, D.C. The other three are dead. William A. was 1st Lieutenant, Company I, 1st Virginia Regiment, C.S.A. and was killed at Gettysburg July 3, 1863 in Picketts celebrated charge. Charles H. (A.?) next in age. John T. moved to Ohio where he married and died near Dayton, leaving 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls, named: Mary Elizabeth, Maggie and Flora, John, William T. and C. H. Of these John and Mary are dead. Charles H. and W.T. reside in Dayton. Flora married a Methodist minister and now lives in Illinois. She first married a man named Andrews who died. Maggie married a man named Miller who died. She now lives in Washington, D.C. John was a Captain in the Civil War in the U.S.A. and died soon after the war about 1868 or 69. My uncle Alexander went to Alabama where he died leaving some family but of these I know nothing. Edw
